Joe Mendoza. Strong, quiet, stoic. For 60 plus years he didn't think it was manly to smile. In his last year he knew that you shouldn't rob yourself of your full expression. I had forgotten my paint, and Joan loaned me a couple colors. It sat on my studio floor, & one day the green and red completed my expression of my father as a young man. He saw it before he died. Alla prima.
